I used to be a college campus minister, until they found out I was gay. I was told I could return as long as I came back straight. It’s a choice – right? I tried so hard coming up with any other explanation than being gay, that my religious abandonment left me reeling with addiction issues. My turning point had to have been the moment I realized that in order for others to start accepting me, I had to accept myself first. It wasn’t long after that I started a theatre company. We’ve taken aim at tackling LGBT stigmas through our show’s themes, in addition to creating a safe place for those who need a safe place to be themselves. Being surrounded by such a diverse group of people has allowed me to not only embrace my story, but confident enough to tell it. In fact, our next show will be just that.
